BEHIND THE SCENES
Growing Small Berries
Great berries start with careful work in the field. Each season, raspberry and blackberry canes are hand-pruned... a time-intensive process that keeps plants healthy and productive.

During harvest, berries ripen quickly and are picked frequently to capture peak flavor. It’s a hands-on effort that takes patience and care. Even imperfect fruit has a purpose. We use it to make our jams and hard cider, ensuring every harvest is put to good use.
Raspberry & Blackberry Picking FAQs
As we prepare for this year’s harvest, here are some of the questions we’re asked most often.
IS IT RIPE?
Blackberries and raspberries do not continue to ripen after picked so only pick the reddest raspberries and the darkest blackberries.

ROTATING PICKING LOCATIONS
With multiple rows and varieties of both blackberries and raspberriess, we rotate picking locations regularly to give the plants time to produce more fruit and to give our field crew a chance to keep everything in great shape. So if you’ve picked berries in a certain spot before, don’t be surprised if we send you somewhere new this time. Think of it as a little berry adventure - same sweet berries, just a different row!

Weekday BERRY PICKing
