Peach Picking at Cider Hill Farm

People are always surprised that peaches grow in New England. Cider Hill Farm has a about 10 acres of peach trees with 5 peach orchards with 20 varieties. Picking runs from late-July to early September. The orchards are a 20 minute walk with hills so wear good shoes. Hayrides run of festival weekends but otherwise be prepared to walk.

SPRING BLOOMS

Peach Blossoms

For a short, magical stretch each spring, the orchard comes alive in soft shades of pink as thousands of peach blossoms open across the trees. It’s a peaceful, blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment. Walking among the blossoms is more than just a preview of the season ahead; it’s a reminder of the beauty that comes before the harvest.

View the blossoms as part of our annual Free Self-Guided Spring Orchard Walk open on Saturdays & Sundays from Opening Weekend through May from 8:30 am - 2:30 pm.

BEHIND THE SCENES

Growing Peaches

Peaches are one of the most hands-on crops we grow and every single tree tells that story. Across our 2,000 trees, the work begins long before harvest with careful pruning, soil care, and constant attention through the season to keep the trees healthy and productive.

But one of the most important steps happens early on, when the trees are full of tiny, just-forming fruit. Each tree is hand-thinned, with our crew removing baby peaches one by one to leave about six inches between each remaining fruit. It’s a meticulous, time-intensive process, but it allows the tree to focus its energy—resulting in larger, juicier, better-tasting peaches. It’s a true labor of patience and precision, all to make sure every peach you pick is worth the wait.

Peach Picking FAQs

As we prepare for this year’s harvest, here are some of the questions we’re asked most often.

IS IT READY TO PICK?

We recommend picking those are ripe or nearly ripe. As a climacteric fruit, peaches will continue to ripen after picked.

ROTATING PICKING LOCATIONS

With multiple peach orchards and nearly 20 varieties, we rotate picking locations regularly to give the trees time to produce more fruit and to give our field crew a chance to keep everything in great shape. So if you’ve picked peaches in a certain orchard before, don’t be surprised if we send you somewhere new this time. Think of it as a little peach adventure - same sweet fruit, just a different corner of the farm!

Weekday PEACH PICKing (OOF that hill) & HAYRIDES

This ones a little tricky. Because of the location of the peach orchards where the trees are happiest, peach picking is typically available on weekends only when we can transport guests via hayrides. Walking is possible but assume a 25 minute walk each way with hills and uneven terrain (oh and the heat). Most sections of the walk are not stroller friendly. The best way to see if we're running hayrides during the week is to visit our TODAY page on Sunday evenings where we'll post the upcoming week's availability and online tickets.

TYPICAL PEACH SEASON LENGTH

With 20 varieties of peaches, peach picking season on the farm begins the last week of July and ends the first week of September.
