Peach Picking

People are always surprised that we grow peaches in New England. Cider Hill Farm has a about 10 acres of peach trees with 5 peach orchards with 20 varieties. Picking runs from late-July to early September. Here are the  varieties you'll find on the farm:

 

HARVESTED LATE JULY - EARLY AUGUST 

DESIREE

Semi-freestone variety with yellow-flesh, medium in size with bright color.

FLAMING FURY (PF 1&5)

Juicy, firm and sweet.

GARNET BEAUTY

Semi-freestone with golden, red-blush skin. Juicy, medium-large fruit great for baking and fresh off the tree.

FLAMING FURY (PF 5-B)

One of the oldest flaming fury varieties with a firm, flavorful flesh and mostly red skin.

 

HARVESTED EARLY - LATE AUGUST  

JONBOY

Yellow fleshed freestone extra large variety with a low-acid sweet flavor, and full skin color that has 100% bright red over yellow.

STARFIRE

Brilliant red, very firm freestone variety with sweet and juicy flavor. Excellent for eating, baking and canning.

 

CORALSTAR

Freestone variety great for canning and baking. They store very well and do not brown when cut.

MESSINA

Large fruit with a striking red blush skin and sweet juicy flavor. This low fuzz fruit is delicious eaten straight off the tree but the firmness makes it an excellent choice for freezing.

GLENGLO

Very larger, very firm and big on flavro for an early season variety.

RISING STAR

A semi-clingstone variety best for fresh eating. Juicy and sweet with a nice peach flavor.

SWEET DREAM

Yellow fleshed freestone large variety with a low-acid sweet flavor, and full skin color that has 100% bright red over yellow.

 

BUENOS

Semi-freestone flat peach with exceptional, sweet flavor. Medium in size with good firmness and melting texture.

 

SATURN

Also known as a donut peach, Saturn peaches are flat and notably flavorful, juicy and sweet with a hint of almond.

 

 

HARVESTED LATE AUGUST - EARLY SEPTEMBER 

GLORIA

Exceptionally attractive larger, very firm freestone peach with a sweet low acid flavor.

 

FLAMING FURY (PF17)

One of the original flaming fury varieties. High quality large peach.

 

FLAMING FURY (PF24-007)

This giant well colored firm freestone peach with excellent flavor and firm texture.

 

AUTUMN GLO

Very flavorful, yellow freestone variety.

AUTUMN STAR

Very hardy and beautiful, large variety with firm flesh. The fruit is mostly red with a yellow background. Great for baking, canning and fresh eating.

WHITE LADY

Best of the low-acid, high sugar freestone white peach with heavenly aroma and firm texture. This variety is medium in size with red-skin and cream flesh.

BLUSHING STAR

This freestone variety has a white flesh and does not brown when cut making them a great option for canning.
